Tūwharetoa Junior Kī o Rahi Regionals
Tuesday 1st December saw the Tūwharetoa Junior Kī o Rahi Regionals take place at Tongariro School in Tūrangi. This event is organised by Roera Hartley, and is in its 3rd year. Roera tells us that this is the third year that the competition has been held and it grows each year.
14 teams over 3 grades participated. Teams came from Tongariro School, Te Kura o Hirangi, Te Kura o Ngāpuke, Kuratau School and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori i Te Reo ki Tuwharetoa.
Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Whakarewa i Te Reo ki Tuwharetoa winning the Year 5 & 6 grade, beating Tongariro School in the final.
TKKM o Whakarewa i Te Reo ki Tuwharetoa were at it again, beating Kuratau School in the Year 7 & 8 final.
In the Year 9 and 10 grade, Te Kura o Hīrangi battled it out against Te Kura o Ngāpuke with Hīrangi coming out on top.
Organiser for the day Roera Hartley added “A big thank you to Tongariro School for letting me host the tournament there, to all the schools for participating on the day and to all the volunteers for helping me run the tournament and helping ref, a huge thank you!”
Roera went on to say “It will be good to see all the older students progress to playing for their schools’ senior teams and also seeing the rest coming back and competing in the 2021 junior tournament to be held later this year.”
A big thank you from us to Roera and his team for all the mahi they do in Tūwharetoa, with children, youth, adults - for all the travelling they do around the motu to play and support other rohe and their Kī o Rahi growth is something to be proud of.
