2021 Tūrangi Whakawhanaunga Kī o Rahi Tournament
On the back of the Kahuitara and Tokomaru Akau Kī o Rahi tournaments, Roera Hartley and his crew from Tūwharetoa decided to run a Whakawhanaunga Kī o Rahi Tournament in Tūrangi.
Roera had been to both tournaments on the coast and wanted to continue the whanaungatanga, hence the decision to do something in Tūwharetoa.
What follows is a rundown of the day from Roera:
A beautiful day in Turangi to run a Kiorahi tournament.
We had 5 teams competing as we had a few pull out last minute but we were able to pull together a mean draw.
Our 5 teams that competed were our visitors from the coast, Tokomaru Bay, and Ruatoria.
Our last 3 teams were all local teams being Waihi, Ngati Hikairo, and a Turangi team.

After round robin we finished the day with a Coasties vs Turangi game.
The coasties gave our Turangi team a beat down winning 41-6. However, we’ll get our revenge at Koroneihana though.
Overall it was an awesome day! Big thank you to Tongariro School for opening the fields for us to host the tournament. The coast teams for travelling all the way to Turangi to play Kiorahi. Rongomai Marae for hosting our east coast whanau, and lastly to everyone who turned up on the day to make it was it was!!
