We had 5 of our Tūwharetoa schools come together at Tongariro School and put on an awesome day of Kiorahi. The 5 schools were Tongariro School, Te Kura ō Hirangi, Te Kura ō Ngapuke, TKKM ō Whakarewa I Te Reo Kī Tūwharetoa, & Taupō-nui-a-Tia College.

We had some awesome games and brilliant talent put on display by some of our best and brightest talent Tūwharetoa has to offer. Some games of highlight were; Taupo Nui with the upset of the tournament beating Hirangi 17-16, Tongariro making a comeback against Ngapuke being down 4-20 at halftime to win 34-30, and lastly Tongariro again making a habit out of comebacks winning against Tongariro with a 4 point try right before full time to knock Taupo Nui out of finals contention winning 29-26.

At the end of the day the last 2 schools remaining were TKKM ō Whakarewa I Te Reo Kī Tūwharetoa vs Te Kura ō Hirangi. Whakarewa looking to avenge their round 1 matchup and Hirangi looking to continue their strong form they’ve shown throughout the day. A final with momentum going back and forth. Hirangi took the early lead zooming out to a dominant 10 point lead. Whakarewa were able to claw their way back to within a couple points with the half time score being 17-14 to Hirangi. The second half stayed tight right through to the final whistle with Whakarewa coming out on top winning 25-24. An awesome achievement for Whakarewa being crowned Year 9-10 champions once again.

Big mihi to Tongariro School for allowing us to host our Kīorahi tournaments. Big Mihi to Morehu Ferris-Bretherton for reffing every game by himself. Also big mihi to all the kura that participated and made the tournament what it was and lastly to the teachers and parent helpers thank you for giving our rangatahi the opportunity to be able to come and play at these events. See you all at Year 9&10 nationals in November.
