2023 Otago Secondary School Kī-o-Rahi Module

We are so excited to see a Kī-o-Rahi Secondary School Module kicking off in the Otago region!

Mikalya Gray from Otago Secondary School Sports Association tells us “We have our first session starting on Wednesday which is going to be mainly coaching/learning based to start. 4 schools have entered at the moment with 1 other expected to enter too”

‘Term 1 has been so busy for the schools, which means getting a new sport up and running is difficult. But we have to start somewhere, we will work with these schools and hopefully continue to grow the sport in

Ōtepoti!”

“We spoke with the Sports Coordinators and they thought it would be best to run this as a ‘have a go’ with coaching and games, as opposed to a competitive competition working towards a final. If this goes well, in the future we hope to develop a competitive league. We may look to partner with the University and Polytech to strengthen Ki-o-Rahi throughout the region.”

The Kī-o-Rahi community is excited to hear of new kura from Te Waipounamu looking to strengthen their Kī-o-Rahi abilities with the good people from Waitaha Kī-o-Rahi having already extended an invitation to any Otago teams should they wish to play in the Waitaha regionals on the 17th March 2023.

I’m sure we will be hearing more from this rohe in the future - whānau if you need any help, please let us know!
