CANCELLED - 2020 NZ Secondary School Ki o Rahi Nationals
The 2020 New Zealand Secondary School Ki o Rahi Nationals has been officially cancelled as a safety precaution admist the COVID-19 pandemic.
Like anything, this is difficult for participants who have been training for weeks and months but the decision has been made by a number of organisations alongside government recommendations, and has the best interests of our people and country at the forefront.
Below is the official letter from KC Maaka, one of the members of Te Taitokerau Ki o Rahi Nationals organising committee:
Kia ora Koutou,
In the midst of the Covid 19 Pandemic and consultation with Te Tii Marae, Te Runanga O Te Rarawa, Sport Northland, NZ Secondary School Sports and Northland District Health Board, the Kiorahi National Secondary School Tournament due to take place in Waitangi 15th to 17th April is cancelled.
An idea was floated to look at splitting the event however, given the advice of our GP’s and senior nursing staff, there was no guarantee that this could be regulated. Whilst it is hugely disappointing, I hope you all agree that given the situation and NZ’s stance on ‘flattening the curve’, it will take a concerted effort to do so preventing an epidemic here.
Please share this with those not on the email out and thank you all for your patience.
Na,
KC Maaka
We must now turn our attentions to looking after ourselves and the health of our family and community.
