Results - 2019 Iwi of Origin
Saturday 12th October saw the Annual Iwi of Origin Tournament held in Auckland with most sports - netball, basketball, tag, touch, rugby, league and ki o rahi being held at Pulman Park in Papakura!
The overall event is organised by He Oranga Poutama with them getting specific people or organisations to care for the different sports.
Ki o Rahi Tamaki Makaurau looked after the Ki o Rahi event for the day - organising the draws and referees.
The Ki o Rahi tournament seen 5 teams enter - 3 teams from Tuwharetoa, a team from Dannevirke and a team from Auckland.
Huge shout out goes to the the Tuwharetoa and Dannevirke teams who have to drive a long way, get acommodation and organise kai. Tuwharetoa in particular have been part of this tournament for many years now and they always bring along at least two teams.
It was only fitting that Tuwharetoa Ki o Rahi and Tamaki Nui a Rua (Dannevirke team) met in the final, both teams came well prepared, having looked liked they had trained for the competition. Tamaki Nui a Rua came out on top and were crowned champions for 2019 - they received a full ki o rahi set which was donated by He Oranga Poutama!
Shout out to He Oranga Poutama, Ki o Rahi Tamaki Makaurau and all the referees and volunteers who helped to make the day happen!
