The 2019 Super Sixes Tournament was held on the 18th September 2019 in the beautiful Hawkes Bay. The Super 6s tournament is a sports competition for Year 6 students from all around the country. The event grows every year, we caught up with event organiser Sarah Kay to see how the event and the Ki o Rahi went:

“We were very happy with the Super Sixes this year, we had roughly 1000 kids participating across two days in a variety of sports (Tag Rugby, Football, Netball, Hockey, Street Basketball, Ki o Rahi and T-Ball).”

“The tournament involved 27 schools, 10 of which were from outside of Hawke's Bay which was great to see.”

“We had 18 teams competing in Ki o Rahi where some schools had only just learnt how to play the game a few months ago. Numbers had doubled from last year where we only had 9 schools entered in 2018. It was such a great buzz and the kids had a fantastic time.”

“The winners on the day were Havelock North Primary School with Cloverlea from Palmerston North coming in at second place.”

“Here at the Super Sixes we pride ourselves on hosting a participation tournament and it was great to see so many new schools competing from across the country and also the returning schools bringing back more kids to play. “

“We know deep down that Kiwi's love a bit of competition so our challenge is to push for that participation to get kids involved in physical activity, no matter their ability”

If you have Year 6 students at your school then put the message out to try and get more teams along to Super 6s in 2020!
